Activities for Babies

Activities for babies are quite fun when mother and baby are relaxed and focused on enjoying the moment and interacting with baby.

There are many ways to provide stimulating activities for 6 month old and 12 month old babies. Some examples are sense of touch, exploring, interacting and intellectual activities for bonding with baby.

Sense of Touch:

Let baby feel different textures around the home such as paper towels, terry towels, satin sheets, rag dolls, soft balls, wool, paper cup and even a clean spoon. Watch that whatever they place straight into their mouths will not harm them especially the dyes, chemicals and colors.

Outdoors:

Let baby feel the bricks, steel gates, posts and wooden doors with supervision. Beware of some plants and leaves which may be poisonous especially ones with white saps. Be careful to check before allowing baby to touch any potentially poisonous plants.

Exploring:

Stretch out on the floor and allow baby to crawl over you. It is a fun game for her whilst bonding with you.

Interacting with baby:

Move bright objects up and down, back and forth with sudden stopping motions in front of baby. It will keep baby engaged and interested.

Hand and Eye co-ordination:

Place a toy near baby but far enough so that he has to move and reach for it.

Intellectual Activity:

Place a plastic cup upside down and then the right way up and let baby copy. Show him his favourite toy and watch what he does.

Activities for the 6 month old babies and activities for the 12 month old babies all seek to create bonding experiences between mother and baby. This will then create a happy and contented child growing up in his positive nurturing environment.

ACTIVITIES FOR 12 MONTH OLD BABIES will be explored further in the next session.
